5. Opstelling
5.1. Battery Installasie
The instrument requires two AAA batteries (not included). To install:
- Vind die batteryklepdeksel aan die agterkant van die toestel.
- Verwyder die deksel.
- Plaas twee AAA-batterye in en maak seker dat die polariteit (+/-) korrek is.
- Plaas die batterydeksel veilig terug.
5.2. Taalinstelling
The device supports both Chinese and English languages.
- Druk en hou die NUL button for 2 seconds to enter the settings interface.
- Druk die NUL button repeatedly to cycle through options until 'LANG' is selected.
- Druk die BEGIN button to toggle between 'EN' (English) and '中文' (Chinese).
- Once your desired language is selected, press and hold the NUL button for 2 seconds to return to the main interface.

5.3. Zero Calibration (Zero-setting)
Before first use or if measurements seem inaccurate, perform a zero calibration using clean or pure water.
- Ensure the measurement slot is clean and dry (see Cleaning section).
- Place approximately 0.3 ml (about 1 mm depth) of clean or pure water into the measurement slot.
- Druk die BEGIN button. The device will display a value.
- Check if the displayed value is 0.0%.
- If the value is not 0.0%, press the NUL button to reset the device to 0.0%.

6. Bedryfsinstruksies
6.1. Sample Voorbereiding
- Temperatuur: For accurate results, ensure the sample and the instrument are at a similar temperature. If the sample is very cold or hot, allow it to equilibrate with the instrument for at least 20 seconds in the measurement slot before taking a reading. The device features automatic temperature compensation (ATC) within 10-40°C to minimize errors due to temperature differences.
- Duidelikheid: If the measuring solution contains suspended solids, remove them using a filter spoon or gauze as much as possible.
- Homogeneity: Mix the measuring solution evenly. Avoid using metal or hard objects that could scratch the optical prism. Uneven solutions or suspended solids can lead to inaccurate measurements.

6.2. Measurement Steps
- Ensure the device is powered on by pressing the BEGIN knoppie.
- Clean the measurement slot thoroughly with clean water and a soft cloth, then dry it completely.
- Add at least 0.3 ml (half of the sample tank) of the prepared sample liquid into the measurement slot using a dropper.
- Druk die BEGIN button. The measurement data (Brix percentage, temperature, and refractive index) will be displayed on the screen within 3 seconds.
- For best accuracy and reliability, suck out the measuring solution and repeat the measurement several times.

7. Onderhoud
7.1. Skoonmaak
Regular cleaning ensures accurate readings and extends the life of your refractometer.
- If there is dirt or oiliness in the measuring slot, or if the instrument has not been used for a long time, it should be cleaned thoroughly.
- Drip clean water into the measuring slot and wipe with paper towels at least three times. Dispose of used paper towels.
- For stubborn oiliness or difficult-to-clean residues, use ethanol or soapy water to clean the measuring slot.
- Always ensure the optical prism is clean and free from scratches.
7.2. Berging
Store the refractometer in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep it in its original packaging or a protective case when not in use.
8. Probleemoplossing
| Error Message / Symptom | Rede | Oplossing |
|---|---|---|
| Oormatige lig | Eksterne lig is te sterk om te meet. | Move to a less brightly lit area. |
| High Temp / Low Temp | The temperature in the measuring slot is out of range (outside 10-40°C). | Allow the instrument and sample to equilibrate to room temperature (10-40°C). |
| Re nul | Zero calibration is required. | Perform the zero-clearing step again with pure water. |
| Less solution / Less water | Too little sample or clean water in the measuring slot. | Ensure at least 0.3 ml of liquid is in the slot. |
| Buite omvang | Excessive concentration of the sample. | Die sample's Brix value exceeds the 0-36% range. Dilute the sample if necessary or use a refractometer with a higher range. |
| Lae voltage | Lae batterykrag. | Vervang die AAA -batterye. |
| Fout | Moontlike skade aan komponente. | Kontak kliëntediens vir bystand. |
9. Gebruikerswenke
- Always clean the prism thoroughly between different samples to avoid cross-contamination and ensure accurate readings.
- For highly viscous samples, allow extra time for the sample to settle and for temperature equilibration before taking a reading.
- When measuring, ensure there are no air bubbles under the sample cover, as these can affect accuracy.
- If you suspect an inaccurate reading, re-calibrate the device with pure water and re-test the sample.
