Before brewing coffee for the first time, it is recommended to clean the coffee maker.

  1. Wash the glass carafe, permanent filter, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

  3. Place the permanent filter (or a paper filter) into the filter basket, and then place the filter basket into its housing. Do not add coffee grounds.

  1. Prepare the coffee maker for brewing as described in steps 1-5 of "Brewing Coffee" (water, coffee, filter, carafe in place).
