Image: The Atago 3405 PR-32α digital refractometer is shown alongside its black carrying case. The refractometer is black with a yellow display area and gray buttons. The carrying case is a rectangular black box with "Palette DIGITAL REFRACTOMETER" and "ATAGO www.atago.net" printed on its lid.

Opstelling

1. Battery Installasie

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the refractometer.
  2. Maak die batteryvakdeksel oop.
  3. Insert the included 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Maak die batterykompartement se deksel stewig toe.

2. Initial Calibration (Zero Setting)

For accurate measurements, the refractometer must be calibrated with distilled water before first use and periodically thereafter.

  1. Ensure the refractometer is clean and dry.
  2. Place a few drops of distilled water onto the sample well (prism surface). Ensure the prism surface is completely covered.
  3. Druk die BEGIN om die toestel aan te skakel.
  4. Druk die NUL button (refer to device buttons for exact labeling if different from generic). The display should show "0.0%" or similar, indicating successful calibration.
  5. Wipe the distilled water from the sample well using a soft, lint-free cloth.

Note: Calibration should be performed at an ambient temperature between 5 to 40 degrees C.

Bedryfsinstruksies

1. Neem 'n meting

  1. Verseker die sample well is clean and dry.
  2. Place one to two drops of the liquid sample op die sample well (prism surface). Ensure the prism is fully covered without air bubbles.
  3. Close the daylight plate (if applicable) gently over the sample.
  4. Druk die BEGIN knoppie om die meting te begin.
  5. The % Brix reading will be displayed on the LED screen within approximately three seconds. The device automatically compensates for temperature variations within its operating range (5 to 40 degrees C).
  6. Teken die meting aan indien nodig.
  7. After measurement, clean the sample well thoroughly with distilled water and a soft cloth.

2. Using the User-Scale Function

The PR-32α features a user-scale function, allowing you to input a coefficient to convert the Brix reading into a specific concentration unit relevant to your sample (e.g., concentration = Brix X coefficient).

  • Refer to the detailed instructions in the full user manual (if provided separately) or Atago's official website for specific steps on programming and utilizing the user-scale function.
  • This function is particularly useful for specific industrial or chemical applications where a direct Brix reading needs conversion to a custom unit.

3. External Light Interference (ELI) Technology

The refractometer incorporates ELI technology, which minimizes interference from strong external light sources (e.g., direct sunlight, bright windows). This ensures accurate measurements even when operating outdoors or near bright light sources.

Onderhoud

1. Cleaning the Sample Wel

  • Maak altyd die s skoonample well (stainless steel 316 prism surface) immediately after each use.
  • Use distilled water and a soft, lint-free cloth or tissue to gently wipe away any sampdie oorblyfsel.
  • Do not use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the prism surface.
  • Verseker die sample well is completely dry before storing the device or taking a new measurement.

2. Algemene Sorg en Berging

  • The device has an Ingress Protection (IP)-65 rating, offering protection against dust and splashing water. However, avoid submerging the unit in water or exposing it to excessive moisture.
  • Store the refractometer in its carrying case when not in use to protect it from dust, dirt, and physical damage.
  • Berg in 'n koel, droë plek, weg van direkte sonlig en uiterste temperature.
  • If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the 9V battery to prevent leakage.
